Local SEO for local shops
SEO for local shops, so the people nearby find you.
Local search is mostly groundwork. Google needs to understand what you do, where you do it, and that other people vouch for you. Your site also has to be fast enough to be worth ranking.
For local shops
What it means in your trade.
People look for local shops by product and need: where to buy a particular brand, gift shop, hardware shop, key cutting, watch battery replacement, wool shop, open today. The groundwork is pages for your main ranges and services, the brands you carry named in text, hours and directions stated clearly, and a Google Business Profile with the right categories, products and photos.

Reviews from regulars help people choose between you and the retail park, and replying to them shows the shop is active. What is realistic is being correctly described for what you sell. Large retailers take many of the generic searches. Specific pages give search engines a reason to connect you with specific searches.
What is included

Built for local shops
Made for your trade.
Every trade asks something different of its website. For a local shop, these are the parts built in.
- Pages for the product ranges and brands you want known, written as text people can search.
- A services page covering repairs, orders, gift wrapping and anything else done at the counter.
- Clear opening hours, parking and directions, with a photo of the frontage.
- A simple reserve or enquiry form for people who want to check stock before they travel, where it suits the shop.
- Your Google Business Profile set up with the right categories, products, hours and photos, matching the website.
- Structured information about what you sell and where you are, so search engines and AI assistants can describe the shop accurately.
What it costs
Included in the rebuild.
There is no separate SEO invoice. The groundwork is part of the £1,400 rebuild, one-off, in about 14 working days.

Questions
The ones that come up.
How long before SEO does anything?
The technical work lands immediately; rankings move over weeks to months. Be wary of any promise of page one within a month.
Do you do SEO as a monthly retainer?
The groundwork is part of the rebuild. Ongoing care at £149 a month keeps it maintained. There is no separate SEO retainer.
How do we keep opening hours right everywhere?
The site keeps hours in one place so a change is quick, and your Google Business Profile should be changed at the same time, especially for bank holidays and Christmas. Special hours set in advance on Google avoid people arriving to a closed door. On Growth Care, you can send seasonal hours over and the website is updated as part of the allowance.
Is a website worth it if most customers walk past the door?
Passing trade is a strength, but many people check online before making a special trip, especially for gifts, repairs or something specific. A website is what answers do you have it, are you open and where do I park. It is also what search engines and AI assistants read when someone asks where to buy something locally.
What photos should a shop website have?
A clear photo of the frontage, so people recognise it from the street, then the inside of the shop, key ranges and the counter or workshop if you offer services. Real photos of your own shelves work better than supplier product shots, because they show the shop people will walk into. Good phone photos in daylight are usually enough.
