The short answer
A small business website redesign in the UK typically costs £1,000 to £3,000 from a freelancer, or £2,000 to £7,000 from an agency. Those are Bark's new-site estimates: no source we found prices small-business redesigns separately, and a full redesign is a new build. A two-to-three-day refresh at ExpertSure's freelance day rates of £200 to £550 is roughly £400 to £1,650.

How much does a full website redesign cost in the UK?
The table sets out each type of redesign, what the published guides say it costs and how long they say it takes. A redesign that changes how the site looks, reads and works is a new build that happens to replace an old one, so the new-build figures are the right yardstick.

SpotDev's figures come from larger B2B projects on HubSpot. It also gives £150,000 as the very top of the whole UK market range, far above a typical price. For hourly and day rates, see how much web designers charge; for everything a new site costs around the build, see website costs explained.
What affects website redesign cost?
- Page count. ExpertSure says agency costs rise by roughly £200 to £500 for each additional page. SpotDev names the number of unique page templates as a main driver.
- Who writes the copy. ExpertSure calls copywriting “often the biggest hidden cost in agency projects”. SpotDev prices it as an add-on from about £1,500 to around £14,000, ex VAT, on its B2B projects.
- Selling or booking online. Bark says ecommerce sites often start at £5,000. ExpertSure says agencies are worth it for complex ecommerce, booking systems or custom integrations.
- Pages to move and redirect. Every old address that earns visits needs a new home and a redirect. SpotDev counts how much content has to migrate as a driver.
- Integrations. Booking tools, CRMs and quote systems add build and testing time; SpotDev lists integrations among its main drivers.
- Agency or freelancer. For the same small business site, Bark puts a freelancer at £1,000 to £3,000 and an agency at £2,000 to £7,000.
How to keep the cost down. These follow from the drivers above; they are our general advice:
- Agree the page list before you ask for quotes, so every quote prices the same job and extra pages do not appear halfway through.
- Keep what already works. Words that bring in enquiries and pages that earn visits can be kept as they are, or redirected.
- Add features later. A booking system or shop can be a second step once the core site is live.
- Have your photos and details ready. On an hourly or day rate, time spent waiting for content can end up on the bill.
- Count the running costs too. Platform plans and plugin licences renew every year; our running costs guide adds them up.
Website redesign cost breakdown: what is in a quote?
Use this list to check that every quote covers each line, or says plainly that it does not. The middle column gives a published price for the line where one exists; most lines have none, because the guides price whole sites. The right-hand column shows what Coltura's fixed price covers, so you can compare like with like.

Words and photos are where cheaper quotes most often leave work to you. Redirects are where a redesign can quietly lose the visits you already get.
Website redesign cost example: three-year totals
The build price is only part of the bill. This example adds three years of hosting to each option, because a cheap refresh on a paid platform keeps costing money after the designer has finished.
- 3-day Wix refresh at £200 a day, plus Wix Core£1,191.98
- Coltura rebuild, self-hosted on IONOS£1,639.97
- 3-day Wix refresh at £550 a day, plus Wix Core£2,241.98
- Coltura rebuild, with Growth Care at £149 a month£6,787.97
The same figures as the worked example above. Wix, IONOS and Krystal before VAT; a .co.uk domain included in every option. Growth Care also covers content changes, monitoring and reports, so it is not a like-for-like hosting cost.
Read it both ways. A refresh at the bottom of the day rate is the cheapest option over three years, and is the right call for a site that already works. A rebuild that you host yourself costs less over three years than a refresh at the top of the range.

How much does a website refresh, rebuild or revamp cost?
A refresh or revamp keeps the same site and changes its look: colours, photos, some words. It is billed by time and costs least. A redesign or rebuild starts the pages again, usually with new structure and words, and costs about what a new site costs. A platform move is a rebuild on a different system.
A refresh is the right call when the site is already quick, works well on phones, sits on a platform you are happy with and brings in enquiries. Then new photos and clearer words may be all it needs, and a rebuild would be waste. Staying on Wix or Squarespace and tidying it yourself is right when money is tight and most work comes by word of mouth.
The cheaper option can cost more in the end. If the site is slow, hard to edit or on a theme that breaks with each update, a refresh pays to decorate those problems. Our guide to redesign vs a new website lists the signs that a site needs a full rebuild, and a free Growth Audit gives you a written, prioritised list for your own site.
How much does a Wix, Squarespace, WordPress or Shopify website redesign cost?
Wix. A redesign inside Wix is designer time plus the plan you already pay. Two to three days at £200 to £550 a day (ExpertSure) is £400 to £1,650, on top of £9, £16 or £25 a month billed annually (Light, Core, Business), going by ExpertSure, plus VAT (Wix's plans page says “Prices do not include applicable taxes”). Wix's Marketplace lists partners who take on site redesigns. Moving off Wix is priced as a rebuild, so about £1,000 to £3,000 from a freelancer (Bark). Wix says a site has to stay on its servers. Wix has no way to export the site itself, so most words and photos are copied across by hand. Before you move any platform, check the domain is in your name: see who owns your website.
Squarespace. Plans are £12, £17, £29 or £79 a month billed annually (Basic, Core, Plus, Advanced). Squarespace can export part of a site in a format WordPress reads: layout pages, one blog, text and image blocks, and gallery pages on older (7.0) sites. Store, portfolio and calendar pages, page-specific headers, footers and sidebars, extra blogs, product, video and audio blocks, and all styling stay behind. Images may need downloading by hand before you cancel.
WordPress. A WordPress redesign is priced like a new build: £1,000 to £3,000 freelance (Bark). You can move a WordPress site between hosts, so a redesign can keep the platform. Budget for paid add-ons that renew every year, such as Yoast SEO Premium at $118.80 a year ex VAT, Gravity Forms at $59, $159 or $259 a year, or Elementor Pro from $60 a year. Managed WordPress hosting at 20i runs from £10 to £300 a month after a £1 first month.
Shopify. Bark says ecommerce sites often start at £5,000. Plans are £19, £49 or £259 a month billed yearly (£25, £65 or £344 monthly). A redesign usually means a new theme. Shopify lets you download a theme file (it is emailed as a .zip and leaves out products, pages, blog posts and images), and products export to a spreadsheet file without their images. We found no full-site export page.
What to ask before you accept a website redesign quote
- Is this a fixed price, and what exactly is on the list?
- Who writes the words, and who supplies the photos?
- Which old pages will you keep, and will every changed address be redirected?
- How many rounds of changes are included?
- Which platform will it be on, and can I move it later?
- Who owns the domain, the site and the content when you finish?
- What is fixed free after launch, and for how long?
- What does hosting cost each year, and in whose name is it?
- Is the price ex or inc VAT?
On redirects: Google's own guidance on moving a site recommends permanent (301 or 308) redirects from old addresses to new ones, and warns rankings can fluctuate while Google processes the move. A quote that does not mention redirects has not planned for that. If pages drop out of Google after a move, our guide to a website not showing on Google explains how to check.
What does Coltura's fixed-price redesign cover, and who is it not for?
£1,400 covers a complete Growth Website: a free audit first, the rewrite of how you explain the business, design, build, local search groundwork including your Google Business Profile, tracking, speed work and launch. Pages that already earn visits are kept or redirected. Build takes about 14 working days once we have agreed the direction and you have got us your content. You get one round of considered changes, 30 days of fixes at no charge after launch, and you own the website, domain, content and accounts.
It is not for you if you run a large online shop, want a big agency team with layers of sign-off, or want to edit every page yourself in a drag-and-drop builder. It is also not worth it if your site is already fast, clear and bringing in work. You can see sites we have built on the projects page.

FAQ
Common questions
What is the average cost of a website redesign in the UK?
For a small business site, about £1,000 to £3,000 from a freelancer and £2,000 to £7,000 from an agency, going by Bark's estimates. A proper redesign costs about the same as a new site.
How much does a website refresh or revamp cost?
It is usually billed by time. At ExpertSure's 2026 freelance day rates of £200 to £550, a two to three day refresh is £400 to £1,650.
How much does a Wix website redesign cost?
Inside Wix, two to three designer days at £200 to £550 a day is £400 to £1,650, plus your plan from £9 a month billed annually, plus VAT. Moving off Wix is priced as a rebuild, about £1,000 to £3,000 from a freelancer: Wix has no way to export the site itself, so most words and photos are copied across by hand.
How much does a WordPress website redesign cost?
Priced like a new build, plus any paid plugins that renew yearly, such as Yoast SEO Premium at $118.80 a year ex VAT. WordPress can move between hosts, so you can keep the platform.
How much does a Shopify website redesign cost?
It is usually a new theme on top of your plan, from £19 a month billed yearly. Bark says ecommerce sites often start at £5,000 to build. Product data exports to a spreadsheet without images.

How much does a website rebuild cost?
About the same as a new site: £1,000 to £3,000 from a freelancer or £2,000 to £7,000 from an agency (Bark), and ExpertSure puts agencies at £3,000 to over £30,000. A rebuild also needs redirects from old page addresses.
