The Alderley Edge market
A small village with a big name.
Alderley Edge is a village of around 5,000 people just south of Wilmslow, named after the wooded sandstone escarpment above it, which is looked after by the National Trust. The A34 bypasses the village, and its railway station has direct trains to Manchester.
Its main street, London Road, is known for restaurants, bars, salons and boutiques that draw visitors from across Cheshire and south Manchester. Around it lie Nether Alderley, Over Alderley and Mottram St Andrew, where large private houses keep landscapers, kitchen and bathroom fitters, interior designers, security installers and cleaners busy.
